Climate change is a major challenge worldwide, and the energy transition is by no means a foregone conclusion. What opportunities does it offer in the short, medium and long term? Which measures can reduce vulnerability to energy imports and volatile energy prices? Which measures are a prerequisite for innovation and investment dynamics? How can export markets be opened up, sustainable employment potential developed and major damage and adaptation costs avoided? And what can we ourselves achieve through behavioural changes?
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manfred Fischedick has been president and scientific director since January 2020 and member of the management board of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy since 2010. In 2008 he was appointed adjunct professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Wuppertal. He is also one of the lead authors of the 6th Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Fischedick's main areas of work include transformation and sustainability research, which he promotes primarily through his membership in various climate protection advisory boards.
