Country Report

Until 2015, funding for Canada's foreign cultural policy was cut in many fields. Since then, cultural diplomacy has regained prominence in Canadian foreign policy. New funding has been made available and new positions created. Special focus is on the export of cultural goods, the mobility of Canadian artists, and the internationalisation of Canadian higher education. The teaching of English and the country's high academic reputation have made it a popular destination for international students. While a coherent cultural diplomacy strategy and concerted approach are still lacking, Canada already has strong bilateral partnerships and national institutions.
