Digital Crossroads

Civic Media and Migration

How do non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in migration and refugee aid use digital media? Interviews with leaders from more than 20 NGOs document how the organisations use digital and media skills to combat xenophobia. NGOs use storytelling techniques to identify and counter discriminatory messages and racist remarks through effective communication campaigns. The report presents core strategies for digital storytelling, outlines a five-part action plan for resulting practices, and provides recommendations for managing digital media programmes and projects.
