Tunisia

Country Report

Tunisia is the only democracy to emerge from the Arab Spring of 2011. The country is striving to build a strong national identity based on the principles of democracy and decentralisation enshrined in the new constitution of 2014. Tunisia's external cultural policy (ECP) is largely driven by non-state actors, despite an over-reliance on public funding. In addition, Tunisia is increasingly integrated into a network of cultural and educational exchanges through the European Union. Today, the country is in a state of political uncertainty and faces a strong brain drain. Linking with the diaspora is therefore an essential component of the ECP.
