Country Report
Renowned as the historic cradle of democracy and the capital of modern philhellenism, Greece’s political capital holds immense symbolic and historical value. However, Greece has also grappled with severe economic shocks, especially after 2008, which left a lasting mark on the country's influence, reputation and ability to fund external cultural policies. In more recent years, Greece has escaped the worst of its economic crisis and is on the pathway to renewed growth. With the increased dependence on tourism, external cultural policy (ECP) will be crucial to improve its international image and counter negative stereotypes. Greece is currently reshaping its ECP with innovative strategies that focus on promoting its language, strengthening diaspora networks, and internationalizing higher education.
