Perspectives Beyond Relocation

Strengthening Artists at Risk – Learning from the Diaspora

This shorter version of the ifa study "Lernen von der Diaspora: Neuanfänge in Kunst und Kultur nachhaltig gestalten" examines the situation of artists newly arriving in Europe from countries where their freedom of expression is severely restricted. It elaborates on sustainable pathways beyond international temporary relocation programmes for at-risk artists. What are the needs of newly arrived at-risk artists? How can more sustainable means of support and working opportunities be created, and how to harness potential for joint strategies through transnational cooperation? How do diaspora communities and diasporic cultural organisations play an important bridging role to facilitate a smoother arrival of at-risk artists in the new country? How to support, strengthen, and recognise their contribution in this matter?
