Qatar

Country Report

Rather than an outward-facing regional focus, Qatar's external cultural policy operates primarily within its own borders. The aim of the Qatar National Strategy 2030 is to turn the country into an international centre for culture, education and research. Cooperation with international partners therefore takes place within the country's borders in order to bring the world to Qatar – and not the other way round. Above all, financial incentives motivate institutions to settle in Qatar, for example in Education City in Doha. Offshoots of many renowned Western universities have settled there, including Georgetown, Northwestern and University College London. More than a third of students in Qatar now come from abroad.
