South Africa

Country Report

Since South Africa's re-entry into the international community in the 1990s, the country has entered a number of bilateral agreements in the fields of arts and culture, education and science. Many South African ministries dealing with international relations are involved. However, external cultural policy (ECP) is not awarded enough attention and funds from the government to establish a sustainable reputation abroad. There is also a lack of centralised coordination and a long-term strategy for the goals of South Africa's foreign cultural policy. Even today, the first successful human heart transplant is proudly presented as part of South Africa's scientific diplomacy.
