What does 'curating' mean today?

potential for transnational collaborations

Since the middle of the 20th century, "curating" has referred to a practice of publication in the art context, involving works of art, documents and artefacts. At the same time, the aim is to educate the recipients and encourage them to reflect on their perception and self-perception. How can they balance the limits of artistic and individual freedom, tolerance and acceptance of otherness, knowledge and ignorance? What are the historical preconditions for curatorial action? Which hierarchies and discriminatory mechanisms of exclusion and marginalisation of Western modernity play a role? What practices are suitable for disrupting hegemonic patterns and initiating transcultural processes of exchange?
