Populist-Nationalism and Foreign Policy

Cultural Diplomacy, International Interaction and Resilience

Nationalist populism has been on the rise around the world, particularly since the global financial crisis in 2008. What characterises this zeitgeist? How is it infiltrating the political process in Europe? What is the role of new communication technologies? These phenomena are analysed at the level of ideology and at the level of practical politics, foreign policy and international relations. Using the example of the European Union (EU) and some of its Member States, the main populist movements and parties, their beliefs, policies and practices will be identified. What about the cultural dynamics of foreign policy? To what extent can state or civil society actors develop strategies of cultural resilience?
